Causes and Treatment of Sacroiliac Pain
About eight years ago my dad started noticing a painful sensation in his back, hips, and pelvis. When he’d get out of bed in the morning he’d feel a sharp and aching pain in those areas. It would also happen if he stood on his feet for too long or if he put too much stress on it. This happened often when he was doing activities in the yard or working on a project in the garage. Eventually he went to his doctor and found out that the problem was with his sacroiliac joint. The sacroiliac joints are two kidney bean shaped joints in the pelvis. They are formed between the sacrum and the iliac bones and move together as a single unit. The sacrum and iliac bones are held together by a collection of ligaments, which creates very little motion in the sacroiliac joints. However, they do support the weight of the upper body. This places a lot of stress on these joints and can cause wearing in the cartilage of the joints. A covering of cartilage on most joints of the body allows for movement and acts as a shock absorber. Sometimes, with age or wear, the cartilage can be worn away and cause the bones to rub on each other, causing severe pain in the sacroiliac joints.
Fortunately, there are treatments to help relieve this pain. Regular adjustments by a chiropractor can help reduce pain from the sacroiliac joints. If you are a resident of California looking for a Folsom chiropractor to relieve your back pain, Blue Oak Chiropractic can help.
