If your HVAC system is getting on in years, it’s time to start thinking about changing the system now. For it’s not a question of “if”, but “when” so perhaps “now” is the keyword to consider because the federal government is offering $1500 in tax credits for new energy efficient appliances.

This is based on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and you can now take advantage of the Federal tax credit for qualified heating and air conditioning Cincinnati, heating and air conditioning Columbus and heating and air conditioning Dayton as well as across the nation. Tax credits are available for up to 30% of the cost or up to $1500 in 2009 and 2010 for existing homes only for:
• HVAC — heating and air conditioning systems
• Windows and Doors
• Insulation
• Roofs (metal and asphalt)
• Water Heaters (non-solar)
• Biomass stoves

Tax credits are available at 30% of the cost, with no upper limit through 2016 for existing homes and new construction for:
• Geothermal heat pumps
• Solar panels
• Solar waer heaters
• Small wind energy systems
• Fuel cells

Q: What is a tax credit?
A: A tax credit reduces the amount of tax you have to pay. If you owe $1000 in taxes at the end of the year and you get a $500 tax credit, then you will only owe $500. If you are getting a refund at the end of the year, you can still most likely collect the entire tax credit. Your accountant can fill you in on the details.

Your HVAC service company can fill you in on the types of heating and air conditioning systems qualify for the tax credit.
