The mid 1800s were a time of great religious excitement in the United States.  People were passionate, protective, and prejudice when it came to religion.  Even though the scriptures state there shall be one faith and one baptism, the sects and denominations were many, varied, and often at war with one another.

 One such church that sprang out of this time of great religious excitement was the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or the Mormons as they are commonly referred to.  Just as when Mary, Jesus’ mother, saw a vision from heaven telling her she was to conceive the Christ child, so did a young boy. He was Mary’s age when he saw a heavenly vision directing him to form a church patterned after the ancient church when Christ was on the earth.  A prophet and twelve apostles directed the ancient church as they also direct the modern day church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. 

 The Protestants church was also growing at this time and actively recruiting new members.  Members were passionate about their beliefs and persecution, and bitterness often ensued between members of different sects.

 At this time of unusually religious enlightment, another new church was formed. The Seventh Day Adventist, also with heavenly visions and manifestation came about.  Among its first members to see visions were two black men.  The church was founded on the basis that the gospel is to be taught to all kindred, tongue, and people.  The founding members believed this, but soon persecution and bigotry crept in, and alienated and discriminated the black members and other ethnic groups.  The Free Seventh Day Adventist was formed to correct these wrongs, among others they saw.

 Free Seventh Day Adventists are free from three different things; the control of man, new theology and celebration worship.  They hold tightly to the scripture found in John 8:36, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.”

 While the church started as an interracial religion, the majority of new converts were whites belonging to traditional churches where people of color weren’t included.  Unfortunately, this practice continued until it became church policy.

 The mid 1800’s were a time of religious zealousness.  People were seeking for a higher power, a system of belief, and for the heavens to speak to men again.  The time of the Enlightment was parallel with religious renewal.  Men were seeking to find their creator and a higher purpose.

 Transportation options are as plentiful as ever as we march into the 21^st century. The various methods of transportation have come, gone, and stayed with us as technology has been improved and other technology abandoned.  Towards the beginning of the 20^th century, inventors and engineers came across the combustible engine. The usefulness of this invention propelled the world into the Industrial Revolution, and changed vehicular transportation as well. The automobile is still used today as the most popular way to travel.

Recently I visited my parent’s house to celebrate my mother’s birthday.  I was greeted by an empty house, but I was undeterred because I had a pretty good idea where to look.  My mom is a gardener.  She can make just about anything grow and flourish in her lush, beautiful backyard.  I stepped outside, and sure enough, she was down on her knees digging at a flowerbed, pulling up weeds that were in the middle of a hostile takeover of the tulips.  Realizing that this was probably the best way to spend time with my mom on her birthday, I decided to trim the bush next to the flowerbed she was working on.  She was delighted.  It was a project she had wanted completed for a while.  I went to the gardening shed, picked out a pair of trimmers, and set to work hacking at the bush.  Hours later I was covered in branches and needles with very little to show for it.  Although the bush was slightly improved, some things are best left to the professionals.

It is amazing that nowadays you can go online and research any imaginable topic and be instantly transported to a number of resources that relate directly to the very specific subject that you are interested in. Through the use of intuitive technology it is possible to type in a keyword search and see a listing of hundreds and sometimes thousands of relevant articles associated with the parameters of what you are looking for.
