Our culture has become more understanding of learning disabilities such as ADHD, and as a result more colleges are offering services to accommodate students who need the extra assistance. The trick is finding the right college that will help you make it through your educational career and come out successful.

One of the biggest concerns about college for ADHD students is the lack of structure. In the college world, you have to plan your own time and keep yourself on the right track. If this is a thought that has entered your mind and made you unsure about your education, you should know there is help available. Research has shown that only 22 percent of high school students living with ADHD go on to attend college.  A lot of students are afraid of how they will do in a college setting, but you don’t have to be. Just as importantly, they provide the right teaching strategy for students with a learning disability. There are schools that address these specific issues while they teach in their classrooms. Although there are many colleges that provide services for learning disabilities, there are only a few that cater to them specifically. Out of those there is only one college for ADHD students that offers BA and AA degrees specifically for people with learning disabilities.

Every student should do a lot of research before deciding on any one college. If you are a student or a parent of a student with a learning disability, you have one more thing to look for in a school. You need to look into the type of services they offer to assist those with learning disabilities. Most colleges should have a support center you can contact. They may be referred to by different names at different colleges. You may need to look for Office of Student Disability Services, Disability Support, Office of Disabled Student Services, Learning Support Services, or any title that resembles these names.

Now that spring is finally here, many people are working on their yards.  All the debris from winter is being cleaned up and carted off.  Bushes need pruning before they sprout and flowers are being planted.  People with enough room for a vegetable garden are busy mulching and getting the soil ready for the seeds they will plant as soon as the ground is warm enough to allow them to germinate.  But many people tend to overlook the cleaning of their gutters.  This is especially important because clogged gutters can lead to damaged paint and siding and even, over time, cause problems with a foundation if the water from spring and summer rain is not properly carried away from the house.

After our recent move to a new home, our garage and basement are full of boxes filled with things we do not currently need.  We will most likely need them in the future, but not right now, and definitely not every day.  They are fine where they are for now, but once we get some things planned out, we want to make better use of that space.  I want to finish one of the rooms downstairs into an extra family room, but for now, it is a storage space.

 We have started looking at different Calgary self storage places here in the area.  We want to find one that is both safe and easily accessible.  When I say safe, I do not just mean safe for my stuff.  I want the place to be a safe place for me or any member of my family to visit when we need to either retrieve something or store something away.  I do not want to have to worry about it being too dark or unsupervised when we visit.

 We also want a place with climate control.  Some of the things that want to store are delicate, and extremes in temperature might damage them.  Not only that, but I would hate to find out after it is too late that my storage space was flooded with rainwater or had snow blown in under the door.  Getting too hot could be equally detrimental, so we want to find a secure self-storage location.

 In looking, I found a place located close to a home, so there was no way to get a moving truck or vehicle anywhere near the storage units.  The place seemed largely unattended, so there was no way to check out moving dollies or hand carts.  I am not really big into carrying heavy boxes for long distances, so I want someplace with loading docks and in-store handcarts to help me move my stuff.

 We care about the things that we own, and even though we may not need it all right now, I want to be sure that wherever it is kept will be safe, sound, and available whenever we might need to go get it.  I also want to make sure we are safe and sound when we need to go get things.

When my wife and I first got married, we looked at what other people were doing in order to keep from reinventing the wheel.  As far as finding a place to live, we checked with some of our friends to find a good apartment complex and chose one from the places they recommended.  For shopping, we checked with her thrifty aunt, who knew where every good deal in town could be found.  As far as a new car, I talked to my friend who worked as a mechanic for a car dealership, and with his inside information, we were able to find a great deal on an excellent and slightly used car.  We did this with everything and because of it, we saved a lot of time, money, and we were able to get our lives on the move in no time at all.

 When it came tax time, I looked around.  My brother-in-law did his own taxes and swore that if we had the right software package, we would get a decent return and never have to pay an accountant.  He said his taxes only took him a few days a year to process, and not only did he get a couple hundred dollars in return, he had the satisfaction of knowing he did it himself.  For some reason, that did not sound like the best option, so I checked with an accountant in Barrie to see what the difference would be.  He offered to look at my taxes and let me know what I could expect, all while I waited at his desk.

 He punched in the numbers, looked at what we were claiming, which was identical to what my brother-in-law was claiming, and made some recommendations.  For starters, we were only claiming about half of the exemptions that we were eligible for.  When he finished all of the number crunching, we were due back over five thousand dollars!  That was more than ten times what my brother-in-law was going to get, and the fee of the accountant seemed like nothing compared to what we would be getting in return.  I gladly paid the accountant, he printed up our papers, and we were filed.  When I told my brother-in-law about what had happened, he actually seemed offended, but my sister-in-law stepped in and made sure, from that point on, they used an accountant.

My wife and I have been married for about twelve years now, and we have had a lot of experiences that I feel have given us an edge in life.  One experience we had early in our marriage related to our taxes, and it was a lesson that has saved us a lot of money over the past decade.  Because of that, we always use a chartered accountant when tax time comes around and would never recommend that anyone do their own taxes.

 For the first three years of our marriage, we did our own taxes.  My sister-in-law had been doing that using a popular computer program, and we felt that we could do the same thing.  The software was affordable, and with diligent recording, all of our taxes were prepared with the push of a button.

 In the third year of our marriage, we had some complications due to some employment changes and decided to contact a chartered accountant.  He was able to have everything sorted for us in a few days, and when I saw how much we were getting back, I was in shock!  It was several thousand more than we had the first couple of years.  He told us that he could review our first two years and see what else we were due, and to our surprise and amazement, we were eligible to collect close to ten thousand dollars in refund money that we had previously missed.  We refiled for those two years, and in a short time, the government sent us all of our money that they were otherwise more than happy to keep.

 Since that time, we have always had our taxes done by an accountant, with very good results.  Because of that, we have been more than happy to refer our friends and family to our CPA, and in return he has always given us great service.  Interestingly enough, my sister-in-law still does their taxes, so this last tax season, we compared our return with theirs.  I thought her husband was going to blow a brain vessel, and they immediately scheduled an appointment to visit our accountant for a review.  I am hoping they can reclaim as much as we did for the past few years, even if they cannot go back any further.  It was a hard lesson for them to learn, and I am glad that we learned it early in our marriage.

Qualifications exist in many professions.  Tests are one way to measure the understanding of individuals who work in different areas.  The whole idea of passing the test has come to represent if a person is good enough to do their job. Therefore, tests are important and will always be used to stand as a measurement and a standard. 

 One such place that needs to be tested is the Securities and Exchange Commission.  Or rather the professionals that work under the guidelines and oversight of the  Securities and Exchange Commission. These are the people who sell the financial instruments like bonds, stocks, and options.  There are many different tests that can be administered to individuals, but one that almost every person who works in the financial instrument sector will need to take is called the Series 7 Exam. 

 This exam has two hundred and fifty multiple choice questions administered in two parts of one hundred and twenty five questions each.  Each part gets three hours of testing time.  The test qualifies an individual to solicit, purchase, and sell all securities products including corporate securities, municipal securities, municipal fund securities, options, direct participation programs, investment company products, and variable contracts.

 There is another series of tests for becoming a registered options principal, a general securities sales supervisor, a general securities principal, an investment company products/variable contracts limited principal, a financial and operations principal, an introducing broker/dealer financial and operations principal, a direct participation programs limited principal, a municipal fund securities principal.  Oddly enough, there is no test for becoming a government securities principal, but a person must be registered with FINRA, and there is no requirement to sell government securities. 

 Another name for these government securities is the United States Treasury Bonds.  One thing that principals and representatives are supposed to do for their clients is to explain the risks of the individual investments.  Some investments are considered to be safer than others, including treasury bonds.  Called T-Bills, these investments are backed by the faith of the world in the ability of the United States to pay their bonds as they promise to do.  Another investment considered to be relatively safe is the area of municipal bonds.  Some of these bonds are tax free and offer steady rates of return.  Safer investments offer lower rates of return than high yield ones, but can be counted on to do consistent payments.
