Last month, my family moved into a beautiful new home.  When we were first married, we lived in a nice apartment, and then we bought and moved into a small, modest first home.  When we moved in, we had one child, and when we left, we had four.  It was only a two bedroom, one bathroom house, so the six of us made it very cramped.  We saved our money, consulted with real estate agents, and at long last found a house to keep our family safe and sound.  The neighborhood is excellent and the schools are the best in the state.  There are a lot of small parks and a massive fairground.  It is literally everything we have always hoped for.

 The change in size means that while we have loads of space, we do not have a lot of furniture to fill it yet.  That’s not a bad problem to have, and my wife has done a lot of window shopping and searching online for the things she would like to have in our home.  It has been a lot of fun, and being thrifty, I know that I don’t have to worry about her recommending anything that will leave us swamped in debt.  She also has good taste, and so I know that even if the furniture in each room is vastly different, it will all match the same theme and style, and one room will seem to flow naturally into the next.

 Slowly but surely, we have been stocking every room with the right furniture from a Denver furniture store.  Our goal was to have the dining room decked out first, because as an extension of the kitchen, it is the most important room in the house.  We can sit on the floor in every other room, but the dining room table is the place where we gather daily to share our meals and reconnect.  When guests come, we always have extra places set to make sure they walk into the home feeling welcome, and leave well-fed.  We have a nice wooden table and chair set and are happy with what we have created.

 The living room was next, and now we have a nice ensemble in that room to keep our family and guests comfortable.  The children also have beds, although we will have to get a new one for our oldest son, who has outgrown the bed he has slept in for several years.  The whole process has been fun and educational, and everyone in the family now has a new sense of ownership in our new home.

Ford is my all-time favorite car company.  Their name is credible, their cars are exceptional, and I really like the fact that they are assembled here in the United States, which means that owning a Ford car helps keep jobs and money in the United States.  I really cannot say enough about how much I like this company.

 My two favorite Ford cars are the Fiesta and the Taurus, for almost purely emotional reasons.  The first time I drove a Taurus was over a decade ago.  My grandmother, who I considered my morning and evening star, had just died, and my car was in the shop for repairs.  In a pinch, I went to a car rental place and was willing to take whatever they had.  The best one for the money was a Taurus, which I ended up keeping for about ten days.  There was just something comforting about the reliability of the car as I was dealing with all of the emotions of losing someone so important to me.  The ride was comfortable for both long and short drives, and I found myself not wanting to give the car back.  In the end, we did part, but I put on my list to own a Taurus someday.

 Several years later, I was in the market for a used car in McAllen. One of my friends is a mechanic, so I asked for his advice and help in picking out a new car.  I really wanted a Taurus, but unfortunately, no one had been willing to part with theirs, so there wasn’t one available on the local used car market.  Instead, we found a gorgeous red Fiesta.  The mileage was good and the Blue Book price was a match up.  We took it out for a test drive, and it had the same feel I had experienced with the Taurus.  We haggled with the Ford dealer a little bit, and when all was said and done, I took the car off the lot and drove it over to my girlfriend’s parent’s house to show it off.

 So, given the choice, our next car will be a Ford.  And so will the next one and the one after that, and eventually one of them will be a Taurus.  Until then, I, my family, and my wallet are happy to be riding in wonderful Ford vehicles.
