Fighting The Insect Invasion

This summer my husband and I were sitting on the couch in the front room watching a movie when I noticed movement out of the corner of my eye.  There was something on the carpet.  I quickly paused the movie and flipped on the lights.  It was a spider.  And not just any spider; it was a huge brown eight-legged monstrosity scuttling across the floor.  I grabbed a shoe and smashed it before it could run under the couch.  I thought nothing of it until the next day when the same thing happened, and the next day, and the next day.  We were infested.  I’m pretty sure I killed at least ten of the nasty things before I finally decided to save one and figure out what we were dealing with.  I researched the spider online.  It had all the characteristics of a hobo spider, one of the most poisonous spiders in North America.  It was time to call the exterminators.

If you are a resident of New Jersey and find yourself in a similar situation with an infestation of some kind of pest or insect in your home, perhaps it’s time for you to look for an exterminator as well.  Horizon Pest Control is an experienced New Jersey pest control company with over 40 years of experience.  Since 1970 they have been helping homeowners with the prevention and extermination of invasive pests and insects.  Your home is a huge investment.  Insects can cause massive damage to a home.  They can also be dangerous to the health of those living in your home.  If you are looking for a New Jersey exterminator, Horizon Pest Control can make sure your home is pest and insect free.

Through Many Moves, Utah County is my Home

Posted on February 24th, 2010 in Occupational Health and Safety by NewsCrawler

I grew up in Salt Lake County, however, I think I am a Utah County boy.  I have lived in Utah County now ever since I turned eighteen, that is, except for the two years I served my mission and the three summers I did sales jobs in other states.  I originally moved to Utah County when I started at Brigham Young University.  I enjoyed it very much and when I got married, we lived nearby in Orem.  After graduation, I knew I wanted to live a little further north, however, I felt I wanted to stay in South of the Point of the Mountain.  We have now lived in Lehi for several years and love it.  We are not ones who like to stay on one place for too long, however, we have discussed how much we like Utah County.  Our last move was a year ago and me moved just one mile from a townhome to a house.  We asked the assistance of the Elders from our church to put on their Utah movers hat, and we are very grateful.

To return the favor, I have volunteered my time and service in helping others load and unload their moving trucks.  The only thing that I have learned my lesson not to touch is that of moving a piano.  Fortunately, in one of my previous neighborhoods I became friends with a man that owns a piano moving company.  They have special rollers and equipment that enables them to do the job right without risking anyone back.

Kick Your Training Programs Into High Gear: Access an Online Safety Library

Posted on February 11th, 2010 in Occupational Health and Safety by NewsCrawler

Thanks to the internet, just about anything a human resources manager needs to conduct training and safety programs is just a click away: just access an online safety library! Too many HR departments waste valuable time reinventing the wheel on their own, creating new employee training and continuing education programs when there are some great ones already just waiting to be downloaded. Here are some examples of the types of tools available on a high quality safety library.

Safety Training

You can download dozens of computer-based safety training programs that can be customized according to your company’s own unique needs. A good safety library will ensure that all of the materials it makes available are OSHA-compliant and meet the highest standards, so you can trust the items you choose to be comprehensive and appropriate.

General Safety Materials

Are you generally satisfied with your existing programs but think they could use a little updating and “tweaking?” When you access an online safety library, you will have hundreds of handouts, pamphlets, safety form, Power Point presentations and just about every other type of relevant materials you can think of.

Materials for Company Safety Manuals

If you work in a safety-sensitive business such as construction, manufacturing, chemical, shipping, and other high-risk fields, your company should have a comprehensive and extensive safety manual. An online library will have all the components you need to put together an outstanding document that is OSHA-compliant as well as useful. Materials include information on ergonomics, forklift safety, fire prevention, respiratory protection, and much, much more.

The above is just a brief snapshot of the types of materials available for download from an excellent online safety library: there is a wealth of great material out there waiting to be accessed. Now is the time to take advantage!
