Regular Checks on Plumbing Now, Prevents Future Problems

Posted on February 24th, 2010 in shoes by NewsCrawler

As a homeowner, keeping up with home maintenance can feel like a full time job but it is important to monitor plumbing problems to prevent headaches later. There are a number of precautions a homeowner can take to stop problems before they start.

Plumbing is one of the aspects that need proper maintenance to prevent future plumbing problems. If you notice a leaky faucet, it will only get worse if a new washer is not installed. Water loss leads to higher water bills. Leaks can cause catastrophic messes down the line such as water soaked floors, woodwork, drywall that can lead to toxic molds and fungus. You don’t want to go there!

Here are a few tips from Phoenix Plumbing to help monitor possible problems:
– Look for leaks and immediately repair them.
– Look for signs of corrosion. Corroded pipes can start leaking and once again, possible future disaster.
– Test the water pressure. If water pressure is low, it is a sign of sediment in the faucet or showerhead. If these are clear of mineral build up, low water pressure could be a sign of a problem in the water line.
– Check sinks, shower and tub for drainage speed. Slow drainage may indicate a clog or a blocked pipe.
– Cracked tiles in the shower and around sinks may indicate leaks.

These are only a few tips from Phoenix Plumbing to check around the house. And ounce of prevention is a smart way to control future catastrophes.

Salt Dough Christmas Tree Ornaments – A Fun Family Activity

Posted on February 24th, 2010 in Clothing and Shoes by NewsCrawler

About two weeks ago my wife sat us all down to make salt dough Christmas tree ornaments for our family night activity.  Although it was easy enough for my two year old to enjoy, it was actually quite entertaining for us parents.  The recipe is quite simple, you mix one cup of flour, one cup of salt, and a half cup of water.  That is it.  Then mix in some food coloring into the dough for other colors.  I was impressed how vibrant you can make the colors.  My first ornament was a snowman with a carrot orange nose, and a bright blue scarf.  I will admit that I was a bit like scrooge when I found out that I would be playing with play dough that evening, however, it was a fun night.

We finished them by baking them at a low temperature, and then spraying them with some clear coat spray paint.  Make sure that when you bake them, you pull them out before they start to brown.  My wife then had the brilliant idea to send these personalized ornaments to my in-laws in California.  It was difficult to say good bye to my cool snowman, but we plan to make some more of them tonight for our own tree.

A couple other points that may be helpful.  Remember to poke a little hole through the top of the ornament so you can tie some ribbon through it for hanging on the tree.  If you wait until it is dry, you will probably crack and break it.  They aren’t the most durable ornaments.  Lastly, the larger you make the ornament, the heavier they are and can really weigh down the tree branch.  Feel free to make them as big as you like, but just keep that in mind.

Finding the Right Gift for a Child

Posted on February 24th, 2010 in Clothing and Shoes by NewsCrawler

Just recently my sister had her second child, a beautiful dark-haired baby boy.  Before the birth, the sisters decided to throw her a baby shower.  I wasn’t quite sure what she would want for her new baby or what she would like.  This got me thinking about baby gifts.  There are so many different gift ideas out there, literally thousands of items.  What are the best gifts to give babies?  Here is a list of some of the best gifts you can give the soon-to-be parents of a brand new baby.

Diapers

The cost of diapers can really add up, especially for new parents that are expecting their first child.  In fact, using disposable diapers for a newborn can add up to about $20 per week, which equals somewhere around $80 per month.  Giving diapers as a gift may seem like a thoughtless or boring gift to you, but to the parents of the baby, it can be a lifesaver.  After about a week of changing diapers, the baby’s parents are really going to be appreciative of having a stock of diapers on hand.

Clothing in all sizes

Babies grow fast and therefore grow out of clothes quickly.  If you are thinking of buying clothes for a baby, consider getting a few different sizes like newborn, up to 3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, etc.

Personalized Gifts

Many people just go to an infant store and buy generic gifts.  If you are looking to add something special to your gift to show how much you care, how about personalized baby gifts?  If you know the baby’s name, a personalized blanket or gift basket can be a great way to show you care.

Men’s Business Casual: Make a Statement With Every Piece

Posted on February 24th, 2010 in Clothing and Shoes by NewsCrawler

If clothing makes the man, then it’s essential that you look professional at work whether you are visiting clients or spending the day getting things done around the office. The “business casual” look has been gaining in popularity so much over the years that it is no longer limited only to Fridays. If business casual has become the norm rather than the exception at your workplace, invest in the very best pieces so that you will make a statement wherever you go. Here are my suggestions for the best brands, piece by piece.

The Slacks

Hiltl is a German company that has been focusing on producing high quality pants, and only pants, since Fritz Hiltl began his business in 1955. What sets these fine slacks apart from the rest is the company’s emphasis on craftsmanship and fit. Hiltl pays attention to every single detail, whether it is the distinctive reinforced pocket inlets, lined waistband, or hardy long-wearing design of the hems.

The Shirt

It’s hard to go wrong with an Emme Uno dress shirt. Emme Uno’s exquisite tailoring and choice of colors and fabrics allows you to wear one on casual days as well as dress days. Cotton and semi-cotton blends combine with Italian style to help you look great no matter what setting you find yourself in. It’s ok to go with plum or fuchsia if you working at the office; but if you are working with clients, go with more conservative colors.

“Business casual” does not have to be synonymous with “unprofessional;” and the way to pull off the perfect casual look is to carefully select the brands you wear.

Alternative Shopping Methods

Posted on February 24th, 2010 in Clothing and Shoes by NewsCrawler

If you’re a woman, shopping for clothes is like your own personal therapy session. If you’re a man… it’s your own personal torture session. Wandering aimlessly through the mall looking at a million items that all honestly, look the same, every once in a while trying on something that looks sort of good on the hanger isn’t exactly your idea of a good time. Of course, this is usually how it is when you’re shopping with a girlfriend. If you’re alone you can run in, grab what you need, and run out, or so you think.

The mall is one giant store filled with a bunch of little stores. How many of them carry great brands such as Lucky and Hiltl? For that matter, how many of them have a really good selection. While I love the mall I do have to say, the stores are so small it’s hard to fit a decent clothing selection in them.

This lack of selection forces you to wander the mall looking for what you need. If that doesn’t sound like your cup of tea go ahead and try something else. The internet is a vast resource of everything you need… use it. Or, you can simply find a store that sells only men’s clothes. The best stores offer Hiltl, lucky, and a variety of other good brands so you can find what you need. Their goal is to make it possible for you to get in, get out, and get on your way.

If you really don’t care for shopping, minimize the time you have to spend doing it. Using a few other shopping methods the words “one stop shopping” might just take on a new meaning.

Men’s Clothing

Posted on February 24th, 2010 in Clothing and Shoes by NewsCrawler

When looking for clothes, female or male, a general clothing store can be unfulfilling. When we want to find just the right thing- something we won’t waste our money on only to wear once and have it fall apart, shrink, or just look like it has already lived its life. It is then that we say well, hey good thing it was only five bucks anyway. In my opinion, that is five bucks too much if it doesn’t serve you well. We always seem to skimp when it comes to buying clothes for ourselves, but then when we are looking for our spouses, parents or best friends we tend to rack our brains trying to think of the best way to impress them. This is where a specialty store comes in handy. But realizing our options is sometimes half the battle.

A great option for men’s and boys specialty items is Sam’s Clothing. Having served four generations already, Sam’s Clothing prides themselves in outstanding service. They offer the finest in men’s clothing including contemporary European and classic American styles. Their business is style and they have followed the latest in fashion since 1899. They carry the greatest designers such as Hiltl, Kenneth Cole, Tricot, Scott Kay, David Donahue, Duchamp, Grand Bands, and more. Visit their knowledgeable staff offering you the most helpful information for a pleasant shopping experience.

Don’t waste anymore money on clothing that doesn’t really fit or ends up sitting around the closet in the dark. Wear the clothes you shop for, feel comfortable and look the part for your everyday roles in life.

Dress for Success: Custom Suits Made for You

Posted on February 24th, 2010 in Clothing and Shoes by NewsCrawler

When you think of Hong Kong you might think of tall incredible buildings, scenic views, tourists, and crowded streets. You probably did not know Hong Kong as the world’s finest custom tailoring at reasonable prices. That’s right! Because they are a free port, Hong Kong has access to some of the finest fabrics. They have also been doing it for generations now. The good news is that you do not have to actually go to Hong Kong to get your own customized suit from them.

The Tailored Man is your U.S. connection to Hong Kong tailors. US Senators, movie stars, and professional athletes have all used The Tailored Man to have customized clothing made to fit them. They take your measurements and photograph which are sent to Hong Kong for a custom fitting matching your specifications. You will be the one wearing the suit, not the suit wearing you.

I discovered the importance of dressing for success and wearing proper-fitting clothing in a stylish manner once I graduated college and entered the real world. What you wear says everything about who you are and even attracts the type of people you work with. Clients know genuine quality of clothing as much as the type of car you drive, when it comes to looking for someone serious and successful. One of the Daswani brothers who founded The Tailored Man said that if you are short, tall, slim or stout, it is time for you to look into custom-made clothes. Try it out, feel, see, and notice the difference from off-the-rack suits. You may be surprised to see the way that others notice you.

Clothing… Quality or Quantity?

Posted on February 24th, 2010 in Clothing and Shoes by NewsCrawler

When you’re out shopping for clothes you can either buy inexpensive clothes that fall apart if you look at them wrong or you can spend just a little bit more and buy clothes that may actually be worth what you paid for them. Now, I’m not saying that all inexpensive brands are low quality and I’m not saying that all brands with a slightly higher price tag are high quality, but more often then not you get what you pay for.

Now I buy inexpensive clothes because, in my mind, they are disposable. If they fit decent and are ten dollars or less I’ll buy them and figure if they fall apart after two washes, I got my money out of them. On the flip side if I want a really nice top or a pair of jeans that I can wear for the next three years and wash continually, I’m going to be looking at a more expensive brand such as Hiltl or Lucky.

The phrase “you get what you pay for” applies when it comes to clothing. Typically brands like Hiltl make their clothes out of higher quality fabrics and they pay more attention to the fit and cut of the clothes rather than just mass producing them. Because of this when you try on a pair of jeans made by a top brand you’ll notice the difference right away. They will be more comfortable, they’ll fit you better, and the color shouldn’t fade after only a few washes. They are made to last longer.

So the choice is yours… do you want disposable clothes or do you want them to last you a while? Either way you’ll be spending about the same dollar amount. So you get to choose… quality or quantity?
