Different Types of Roofing Materials

Posted on November 30th, 2009 in Cosmetic Surgery by NewsCrawler

If your roof looks like a tornado just hit your town but you live on the tornado-free west coast, perhaps it’s time to consider having your roof re-shingled.  Your roof protects the rest of your house so it’s important you make sure it’s in the best condition possible.  When it comes time to re-shingle, you may also want to consider a new look for your home.  Switching to a new roofing material can add a great new dimension to your house.  There are many options available.

Three-tab asphalt shingles are the most common type of shingle used today.  They are available in both solid and blended colors with about a dozen color variations.  The reason they are so common and popular is that they are such a great value.  In most cases they last about thirty years.

Another great type of shingle is a wood shingle.  Wood shingles are a beautiful roofing option and as they weather they turn to a soft silver color, which blends nicely in most landscapes.  Most often wood shingles are made from cedar of either the Western Red, Alaskan Yellow, or Eastern White cedar varieties.

Ceramic tile is also a popular option, especially for Spanish or Mediterranean style homes.  Barrel tiles are the most commonly used type of ceramic roofing tile.  Tiles are heavier than asphalt shingles so a house must have the proper roofing support in order to be roofed with ceramic tile.

If you are a resident of San Diego, California looking for a new roofing option for your home, C & I Roofing Company can help.  Since 1987 the experienced and reliable roofers at C & I have been creating beautiful, long lasting roofs for California residents.  If you are looking for San Diego roofers, C & I Roofing Company carries any style of roofing material for your home.

The Very Best Picnic Foods for Families

Posted on November 27th, 2009 in Accessories by NewsCrawler

In these challenging economic times, Americans are once more returning to basics and indulging in the simple pleasures of days gone by. One of these lovely traditions is taking the family in hand, loading up the car with picnic baskets, and heading to the park or the zoo for a day of togetherness and yummy food. There’s nothing quite like spreading out on a shady lawn and digging into picnic baskets laden with delicious delights made lovingly at home. It doesn’t need to be fancy at all: it just needs to combine nutrition with ease of transport and consumption. Here are some of the very best picnic foods for families.

The Sandwich

This tried and true classic is still the easiest, most versatile choice for picnics that makes everyone happy. The trick to including sandwiches in picnic baskets is to pack each ingredient separately: do not make them up ahead of time! Having all the ingredients on hand gives everyone the opportunity to make their own sandwiches just the way they like them: with or without mayo, with or without tomatoes, etc. Everyone is happy and the amount of whining is greatly reduced. Besides, soggy sandwiches are a real picnic-spoiler, which is reason enough not to make them up ahead of time.

Fruit and Crudites

These are the ultimate in nutritious finger food, and they are generally not messy. Bring a variety so that everyone has a choice: apples, bananas, oranges, carrot sticks, celery sticks, and green pimento olives. One kid-friendly fruit choice is the kiwi: simply slice one in half width-wise and the fruit can easily be scooped out with a plastic spoon.

Dessert

A little treat will make a sweet ending to a lovely family al fresco meal. Brownies, layered bars, peanut butter cookies, and even trail mix or organic granola make easy and no-mess desserts. Try to choose items that need no refrigeration and will not make a mess.

The family outing is back in a big way, so pack up the picnic baskets and enjoy making memories that will last a lifetime.

In-Home Care For Aging Adults

Posted on November 27th, 2009 in Cosmetic Surgery by NewsCrawler

One of the most difficult decisions any child must make for their parent is how to best care for them when they’ve reached an age where care has become difficult and time-consuming or reached a point where professional medical care is needed.  Many children would like to be able to care for their senior loved one on their own, but sometimes situation and circumstance don’t make that option a possibility.

For a long time when I was younger, my ailing seventy-seven year old grandma lived in the house with my family.   At the time, there were eight young children at home that my mother had to take care of as well as my grandma while Dad was at work.  We did the best we could for grandma, but there came a point when my parents were unable to provide the kind of care and assistance that my grandma needed while also caring for so many young kids.  They had to make the difficult decision to find outside help.

For many people, senior assisted living is the best option for aging adults.  If you are a resident of California and faced with a similar circumstance, Heritage Senior Care can help.  Since 1983 Heritage Senior Care has been family owned and operated and dedicated to serving the needs of seniors.  Heritage Senior Care offers in-home care for seniors, ranging from companion care, personal care, to end-of-life care.  If you are looking for help with California assisted-living, the staff at Heritage Senior Care are experienced experts in California senior care.

Eco-Friendly Products Make Truly Thoughtful Gifts

Posted on November 26th, 2009 in Accessories by NewsCrawler

As the holidays roll around again, you may be wondering what to give your friends and loved ones that is new, fresh, and topical. Perhaps this is the year to look into giving eco-friendly gifts. Everyone is looking for ways to safeguard the environment and reduce our carbon footprints these days, so why not make a conscious effort to seek out delightful items that support this effort? Here are a few suggestion s for eco-friendly products that make truly thoughtful gifts.

Eco-friendly picnic baskets

The picnic is enjoying resurgence in popularity, no doubt due to the rough economy. People are looking for simpler, less expensive ways to entertain their families and create memories and what could be more enjoyable than going on a picnic? Eco-friendly picnic baskets are PVC-free and will not harm the environment or your family’s health. Polyvinylchloride is a type of plastic that is not biodegradable or even degradable and its widespread use can be curtailed by the refusal to buy products containing it.

Green Clothing

If you like to give clothes, look for online purveyors of eco-friendly green apparel. Green clothing can be made from renewable resources such as bamboo, soy, and organic cotton and many companies even feature clothing made entirely from recycled materials. These clothes are absolutely beautiful, comfortable, and altogether a great alternative for those who want to make an environmental difference.

Make a Donation

For your friends who have everything, why not make a donation in their name to their favorite charity or pet cause? Sometimes getting more “stuff” isn’t as appreciated as much as the thoughtfulness of your making a contribution to something important and lasting.

Giving eco-friendly gifts just takes a little imagination and a little research, but the recipients will love it that you care not only for them, but for the environment as well.

Wearing Business Casual Should Still Mean Wearing Style

Posted on November 25th, 2009 in Men's Clothing by NewsCrawler

Too often, the term “business casual” has come to mean wearing a pair of jeans to work. Really, a business casual day for men just means a break from the traditional suit/white dress shirt/tie/highly polished shoes combination. It does NOT represent an opportunity to dress on the grungy side. Really, wearing business casual should still mean wearing style since how you look affects not only your work performance but also how your clients judge you. Here are some of the basics of truly effective “business casual.”

Shirts

Button-down styles are always a safe bet; polo shirts are simply too casual. Period. Polos are acceptable for the company bowling party or picnic but that’s about it. A high quality button-down shirt may be worn with or without a sport jacket and will always maintain a slightly dressy edge to it. Choose brands that have a tailored fit and that come in a wide range of colors and weather-appropriate fabrics.

Trousers

Jeans are acceptable if they are high-end and tailored properly. I like Hiltl brand jeans because they never look sloppy. Hiltl also makes chinos, wool slacks, and a variety of other styles to help you look good no matter the circumstance. Always make sure you wear your slacks pressed, a crease is optional. Pair the slacks with a leather belt and you will always look professional. The colors and fabrics you choose should match the time of year, of course.

Shoes

Save the sneakers for the tennis or basketball court: they never look good at work. Loafers are always a safe choice and you should keep a pair in both black and brown. Shoes with composite soles also work in business casual settings and are extremely comfortable to boot.

You should aim for looking stylish, even on business casual days. You never know whom you might want or need to impress.

Men's Business Casual: Make a Statement With Every Piece

Posted on November 25th, 2009 in clothing by NewsCrawler

If clothing makes the man, then it’s essential that you look professional at work whether you are visiting clients or spending the day getting things done around the office. The “business casual” look has been gaining in popularity so much over the years that it is no longer limited only to Fridays. If business casual has become the norm rather than the exception at your workplace, invest in the very best pieces so that you will make a statement wherever you go. Here are my suggestions for the best brands, piece by piece.

The Slacks

Hiltl is a German company that has been focusing on producing high quality pants, and only pants, since Fritz Hiltl began his business in 1955. What sets these fine slacks apart from the rest is the company’s emphasis on craftsmanship and fit. Hiltl pays attention to every single detail, whether it is the distinctive reinforced pocket inlets, lined waistband, or hardy long-wearing design of the hems.

The Shirt

It’s hard to go wrong with an Emme Uno dress shirt. Emme Uno’s exquisite tailoring and choice of colors and fabrics allows you to wear one on casual days as well as dress days. Cotton and semi-cotton blends combine with Italian style to help you look great no matter what setting you find yourself in. It’s ok to go with plum or fuchsia if you working at the office; but if you are working with clients, go with more conservative colors.

“Business casual” does not have to be synonymous with “unprofessional;” and the way to pull off the perfect casual look is to carefully select the brands you wear.

Alternative Shopping Methods

Posted on November 25th, 2009 in clothing by NewsCrawler

If you’re a woman, shopping for clothes is like your own personal therapy session. If you’re a man… it’s your own personal torture session. Wandering aimlessly through the mall looking at a million items that all honestly, look the same, every once in a while trying on something that looks sort of good on the hanger isn’t exactly your idea of a good time. Of course, this is usually how it is when you’re shopping with a girlfriend. If you’re alone you can run in, grab what you need, and run out, or so you think.

The mall is one giant store filled with a bunch of little stores. How many of them carry great brands such as Lucky and Hiltl? For that matter, how many of them have a really good selection. While I love the mall I do have to say, the stores are so small it’s hard to fit a decent clothing selection in them.

This lack of selection forces you to wander the mall looking for what you need. If that doesn’t sound like your cup of tea go ahead and try something else. The internet is a vast resource of everything you need… use it. Or, you can simply find a store that sells only men’s clothes. The best stores offer Hiltl, lucky, and a variety of other good brands so you can find what you need. Their goal is to make it possible for you to get in, get out, and get on your way.

If you really don’t care for shopping, minimize the time you have to spend doing it. Using a few other shopping methods the words “one stop shopping” might just take on a new meaning.

Men’s Clothing

Posted on November 25th, 2009 in clothing by NewsCrawler

When looking for clothes, female or male, a general clothing store can be unfulfilling. When we want to find just the right thing- something we won’t waste our money on only to wear once and have it fall apart, shrink, or just look like it has already lived its life. It is then that we say well, hey good thing it was only five bucks anyway. In my opinion, that is five bucks too much if it doesn’t serve you well. We always seem to skimp when it comes to buying clothes for ourselves, but then when we are looking for our spouses, parents or best friends we tend to rack our brains trying to think of the best way to impress them. This is where a specialty store comes in handy. But realizing our options is sometimes half the battle.

A great option for men’s and boys specialty items is Sam’s Clothing. Having served four generations already, Sam’s Clothing prides themselves in outstanding service. They offer the finest in men’s clothing including contemporary European and classic American styles. Their business is style and they have followed the latest in fashion since 1899. They carry the greatest designers such as Hiltl, Kenneth Cole, Tricot, Scott Kay, David Donahue, Duchamp, Grand Bands, and more. Visit their knowledgeable staff offering you the most helpful information for a pleasant shopping experience.

Don’t waste anymore money on clothing that doesn’t really fit or ends up sitting around the closet in the dark. Wear the clothes you shop for, feel comfortable and look the part for your everyday roles in life.

Dress for Success: Custom Suits Made for You

Posted on November 20th, 2009 in clothing by NewsCrawler

When you think of Hong Kong you might think of tall incredible buildings, scenic views, tourists, and crowded streets. You probably did not know Hong Kong as the world’s finest custom tailoring at reasonable prices. That’s right! Because they are a free port, Hong Kong has access to some of the finest fabrics. They have also been doing it for generations now. The good news is that you do not have to actually go to Hong Kong to get your own customized suit from them.

The Tailored Man is your U.S. connection to Hong Kong tailors. US Senators, movie stars, and professional athletes have all used The Tailored Man to have customized clothing made to fit them. They take your measurements and photograph which are sent to Hong Kong for a custom fitting matching your specifications. You will be the one wearing the suit, not the suit wearing you.

I discovered the importance of dressing for success and wearing proper-fitting clothing in a stylish manner once I graduated college and entered the real world. What you wear says everything about who you are and even attracts the type of people you work with. Clients know genuine quality of clothing as much as the type of car you drive, when it comes to looking for someone serious and successful. One of the Daswani brothers who founded The Tailored Man said that if you are short, tall, slim or stout, it is time for you to look into custom-made clothes. Try it out, feel, see, and notice the difference from off-the-rack suits. You may be surprised to see the way that others notice you.

Clothing… Quality or Quantity?

Posted on November 20th, 2009 in clothing by NewsCrawler

When you’re out shopping for clothes you can either buy inexpensive clothes that fall apart if you look at them wrong or you can spend just a little bit more and buy clothes that may actually be worth what you paid for them. Now, I’m not saying that all inexpensive brands are low quality and I’m not saying that all brands with a slightly higher price tag are high quality, but more often then not you get what you pay for.

Now I buy inexpensive clothes because, in my mind, they are disposable. If they fit decent and are ten dollars or less I’ll buy them and figure if they fall apart after two washes, I got my money out of them. On the flip side if I want a really nice top or a pair of jeans that I can wear for the next three years and wash continually, I’m going to be looking at a more expensive brand such as Hiltl or Lucky.

The phrase “you get what you pay for” applies when it comes to clothing. Typically brands like Hiltl make their clothes out of higher quality fabrics and they pay more attention to the fit and cut of the clothes rather than just mass producing them. Because of this when you try on a pair of jeans made by a top brand you’ll notice the difference right away. They will be more comfortable, they’ll fit you better, and the color shouldn’t fade after only a few washes. They are made to last longer.

So the choice is yours… do you want disposable clothes or do you want them to last you a while? Either way you’ll be spending about the same dollar amount. So you get to choose… quality or quantity?
