Losing Weight Safely

You know, it really makes me laugh that the best credentials the “latest” in weight loss pills has to offer is “as seen on the Oprah Winfrey show.” Really, I respect Oprah as much as anyone else. She’s a smart lady and has done so much good for the world, but the woman is NOT a doctor, and let’s face it, she’s yo-yoed over the years with fad diets just like the rest of us.

Countless studies have told us that our country is facing an obesity epidemic of massive proportions (sorry for the bad pun) which is easy enough to see without all the research to document it. Of course we all want to lose a few (or fifty) extra pounds, and because of our soft lifestyle, we want to do it without any effort on our part. Weight loss pills have been the magic solution for obesity problems for decades. The only problem is, they usually either don’t work, or are accompanied by hazardous side effects including addiction and heart damage.

Exploring with Expedition Vehicles

I love the outdoors. There is just something about being out in nature and seeing the earth’s beauty that simply can’t be beaten. Camping, hiking and exploring are loads of fun, but as I get older I have realized that those activities, combined with my growing age, are beginning to take a tougher toll on my body (oh my aching knees and throbbing back!).

What I really want to do, is explore the backcountry and beautiful mountains with an expedition vehicle of some sort. Four-wheeling and off-roading are so fun and exciting, and to me they provide an entirely different kind of thrill that goes beyond the exploration of new places and beautiful sights.

The Dangers of Diet Pills

Diet pills have a long history of being put on the market, only to be pulled a few months or years later as dangerous side effects and problems surface. About thirty years ago amphetamine diet pills were very popular and women were popping them like candy. Unfortunately, doctors discovered that the diet pills could not only be highly addictive, they weren’t really living up to their promised miracle weight loss anyway.

In 1992 the FDA banned 111 ingredients in over-the-counter (OTC) diet pills as being too dangerous to be taken without doctor supervision. A particularly dangerous but one-time trendy ingredient in diet pills was guar gum, which had the ability to swell once in the stomach creating the feeling of fullness. Guar gum however, didn’t only swell in the stomach, but caused blockages in the throat as well becoming a choking hazard.

Diet Pills vs. Diet

When it comes to loosing weight, I’m not a big fan of dieting. I would much rather work out playing sports or running and eat what I want during the day. On the other hand, I am also pretty wary of diet pills.

If you enjoy spending time in the great outdoors, but your body would rather avoid sleeping on the ground in a damp or chilly tent, take the comforts of home with you in an expedition vehicle.

One of Millions Watching Weight

Like thousands of other women across the country, I sometimes get an ideal image of my personal appearance stuck in my head that doesn’t match reality. My attempts to get closer to the ideal sometimes involve eyebrow tweaking, a hair cut or new clothes, but the most consistent change that comes to mind is weight loss. Now, I definitely don’t want to be anorexic, but it would be nice to look as slim and trim as I did in high school.
