Buying Sunglasses from Street Vendors – Part 1

Posted on August 31st, 2007 in Tips and Tricks by NewsCrawler

Tourists love sunglasses. It’s a simple fact, usually they love them because their eyes are used to be outside (that’s how they can afford to be tourists in the first place). Getting a good price on sunglasses comes down to a number of factors, where you are, what you look like, if you speak the language and most importantly of all, patience.

Patience

Patience comes down to having the will to go without until you get the deal you want. When looking at whatever street vendor item you want be sure to look interested but not overtly so. You have to look like you’re teetering so that they can give you enough price incentive to buy their wares.

A single word of warning however, street vendors are used to haggling. It is very likely that they are better at it than you are because they are used to it. They will still make money off of you (which is a good thing) no matter how much you haggle.

Show me the money

One of the simplest ways to show someone how much you are willing to pay for something is to show them cash for what you want. Don’t just say “3 dollars?” hoping they drop the price, stick the money in their face as if the deal is already done.

This is only for low-ticket items, the last thing you want to do in a tourist location is wave money around so try to be suave about it.
